In Medicine, innovation is not just the ability to use new technological instrumentations; it’s an idea, a grow process as society for an evolution culture in order to discovers alternative methods for well-being.

For this reason I met Dr. Umberto P. Martino, Dentist, University professor and Consultant specialized in the evaluation and treatment of recurrent postural problems in Sports Medicine.

He has a long international experience in the diagnosis and treatment of traumas reported by professional athletes in the football world. He worked for Ajax Football Club in particular, and treated basketball, motoring, motorcycling and golf athletes.

I was very intrigued by his mission: to make people understand once and for all that there is a direct relationship between occlusion and posture.

As a big Juventus fan, he thinks about how his skills can be effectively used with athletes like Douglas Costa to support the decisions of the sports doctor.

It’s not so obvious that if you suffer from recurring pains such as headaches, shoulder pain, arm or back pain, these could depend on the mouth, the way you chew and the position of the teeth.

In Sports, athletes who suffer injuries are rarely subjected to a dental assessment of this type, even less to verify and enhance performance with a dedicated path.

We need a greater awareness of these issues and a more shared vision in the dental world.
